In 2017, my good friend and brother, Kelvin Wooten, approached me with an idea. He said, “Man, you should write a book!” At that time, I couldn’t imagine what I'd write about. However, in 2022, I realized we were approaching the 25th anniversary of my album “Southbound,” and I thought sharing the inspiration behind and the making of this pivotal record in my journey could be an interesting topic. I decided to use the concept from the original CD insert's artwork, which featured my southern-themed photographs and liner notes, as the template for my first book, “SOUTHBOUND: My Musical Journey Home.” It is part biography, commentary, and travelogue featuring nearly 100 photographs from 1981 to the present.
